Class 2 session 7: NEW reference
I got an email back from Doug Dooley saying that the reference I sent to him it was kind of weak and fake. Here is the new one!
Class 2 session 7: Sticky Door Video
I decided to go for the "Open a sticky door" assignment from the pick list; its nothing I've done before and it also reminds me about a scene from Monsters Inc; that of course is so well done. It seems fun to try!

Class 2 session 6: Final
For this last pass, final polishing on the knees and on how the weight shifts from right leg to left leg on frame 70 to 90. It still seems that a different action when he is on top of the box is needed, a quicker one to absorb all the energy from jumping on to the box.

Class 2 session 6: Refining
Counter animation is something that keeps you busy for sure, it basically means that you need to address the character in a hierarchical way, starting with the hips then legs, torso, arms and so on. It affects the animator's way of thinking; how to address the notes and make changes to you animation, when you fix one thing and 4 others break; this is computer animation. I was glad to hear from Disney during Chicken Little that they developed tools that allow animators to make changes in a traditional way, meaning more a classical animation approach where you think of the frames as drawings and not worry about any hierarchy.

Class 2 session 5: Re-block
Crazy week I had at work! I didn't get any chance to work on AM during the week, so all this Saturday morning-afternoon I'm taking care of it. What is always surprising is how much you can get with short deadlines, like just one day instead of one whole week, somehow you make it work with less time!
Here's the re-block pass, basically I added more breakdown poses and started inbetweening. I kept pretty much the keys where they were (same frame number), I'm only adjusting the arcs and the spacing along them. If it works on the live action reference it has to work on CG, I guess!
Chris Bailey was with us all this week at work, pretty interesting to know somebody that worked 10 years at Disney. He stressed out "3D drawings with 2D clarity" in one of his conversations while he was drawing some Garfield poses.

Class 2 session 4: Planning
Whoa! I'm getting way faster with my pose tests! This one is larger than the previous assignment and I finished in less than 2 hours, (I was even doing my laundry at the same time). Mario likes!!
